Furniture Import Compliance by Market
· 7 min read
A plain-English guide to timber rules for importing into the EU (EUDR), US (CARB, TSCA, Prop 65), UK and Australia (AQIS) — confirmed per order.
Why compliance is set per order, not per website
Furniture rules change by destination, by material and sometimes by the buyer’s own programme. Rather than claim a blanket certificate, we confirm the exact requirements against your order and supply what that market needs.
This guide explains what the common regimes are so you can tell us what applies to you.
European Union — EUDR and legal timber
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires that timber products placed on the EU market are deforestation-free and legally produced, with due-diligence information and geolocation of harvest.
We supply legal-timber documentation and prepare EUDR-ready paperwork on request so your due-diligence file is complete. See exporting to Europe.
United States — CARB, TSCA Title VI and Prop 65
For composite wood, the US sets formaldehyde limits under CARB Phase 2 and the equivalent TSCA Title VI. California’s Proposition 65 concerns warnings on certain substances, including some finishes.
Solid-wood pieces sidestep much of the composite-panel exposure, and CARB/TSCA-aware finishes are available on request. We confirm the specific requirement for your order — see exporting to the USA.
United Kingdom — timber legality
Post-Brexit, the UK operates its own timber-legality expectations. We provide legal-timber documentation and ISPM-15 fumigation certificates; confirm the exact documents your importer of record needs — see exporting to the UK.
Australia — AQIS/biosecurity packing
Australia’s biosecurity rules are strict on timber and packaging. Shipments are packed to meet those requirements, with documentation prepared at our end — see exporting to Australia.
The one constant: ISPM-15
Wherever it’s going by sea, wood is fumigated to ISPM-15 — the international standard for solid-wood packaging and products. It’s applied to every sea shipment as standard.
