Importing into the USA: the facts
Checked 10 Oct 2026. Rules change — confirm the details for your product with your customs broker.
Duties
- Base (MFN) duty is Free for the main wooden furniture headings (HTS 9401.61, 9401.69, 9403.30.80, 9403.40.90, 9403.50.90, 9403.60.80). — Source: USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule (10 Oct 2026)
- Imports from India currently pay an additional 10% under Section 301. Goods covered by Section 232 are excluded from it. — Source: PIB release 2289348 (USTR final Section 301 measures) (25 Jul 2026)
- Upholstered wooden furniture pays 25% under Section 232, scheduled to rise to 30% on 1 January 2027. — Source: Federal Register 2026-00327 (Section 232 wood products proclamation) (9 Jan 2026)
Compliance
- Composite-wood parts fall under formaldehyde rules (TSCA Title VI / CARB Phase 2); solid wood largely avoids them. California sales may need Proposition 65 warnings.
- All solid-wood sea shipments are fumigated to ISPM-15, with legal-timber documentation for your broker.

Hotel and contract furniture suppliers for the US
We supply hotel and contract furniture to US importers, distributors and hospitality groups — built to order in our own factory in Jodhpur, India, and shipped to US ports by the container. Sea shipments are fumigated to ISPM-15, and we supply legal-timber documentation; CARB / TSCA Title VI-aware finishes are available on request, with Proposition 65 considerations confirmed per order. Solid-wood construction sidesteps much of the composite-panel exposure — the compliance guide explains the regimes.

Frequently asked
- Do you supply hotel furniture to US hotel groups and importers?
- Yes — we build hotel and hospitality furniture to your FF&E spec or drawing and ship by the container to US ports, from a five-unit sample to a full 40HC.
- What are the duties on furniture imported to the US?
- As of October 2026, most solid-wood furniture headings carry a Free base (MFN) rate, but imports from India currently attract an additional 10% duty under Section 301. Upholstered wooden furniture is instead subject to a 25% Section 232 tariff, scheduled to rise to 30% on 1 January 2027. US rates have changed several times since 2025, so have your customs broker confirm the HTS code and current duty for your product before you order.
- Is the timber compliant for US import?
- We supply legal-timber documentation and ISPM-15 fumigation; CARB/TSCA-aware finishes on request. Verify per order.
- Which of your pieces does the US Section 232 tariff affect?
- The 25% Section 232 tariff covers upholstered wooden furniture — sofas, upholstered armchairs and similar. Non-upholstered casegoods, beds and tables are outside it but pay the 10% Section 301 duty on Indian goods. Where a piece mixes the two (for example a bed with an upholstered headboard), your customs broker decides the classification.
- Do you build to US bed sizes?
- Yes — Twin, Full, Queen, King and California King frames are built to the mattress size on your FF&E schedule, or to your own drawing.
