Sheesham (Indian rosewood)

Dense, hard and tight-grained with dramatic figure, sheesham takes a fine finish and stands up to heavy contract use — a workhorse for tables, sideboards and beds. We kiln-dry and moisture-log it in our own yard, typically to 8–10%, so imported pieces don't crack or warp as they settle into a dry, air-conditioned interior.

Why sheesham wood furniture lasts

Sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo) is one of the harder Indian hardwoods — about 770 kg/m³ dried, with a Janka hardness of 1,660 lbf and a decay-resistance rating of durable to very durable (The Wood Database) — with interlocked grain that resists splitting and a natural figure that varies board to board — so no two pieces are identical. Its density carries screwed and mortise-and-tenon joints well, which is why it holds up under the repeated loading of hotel and restaurant use. We work it solid, not as a veneer over board, so a mark can be sanded back and re-finished on site rather than replaced.

Finishes and care

Sheesham accepts natural oil, wax, stain and lacquer; the grain reads through a clear finish and takes a darker stain evenly. In service, keep it clear of direct heat and strong sun, wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth, and re-oil or wax occasionally to feed the grain. Kiln-drying to 8–10% before it ships is what keeps a piece stable when it moves from a humid workshop to a dry, conditioned interior.

Sheesham pieces are cut, joined and finished on our own floor and checked for moisture, joinery, finish and dimension before packing. Orders run from a five-unit sample to a full container; we quote EXW, FOB or CIF from Mundra or Nhava Sheva, fumigate to ISPM-15 and prepare export documentation here.
